Poor conditions on northern paths notably between VE and the UK resulted
in shorter band openings and weaker signals as compared with last year.
It was good to see 10M open on N-S paths but even with the bonus points
the extra contacts couldn't compensate for the loss of QSOs with the UK.

    VE3NR
    Open 12 hrs

    VE3OI
Great contest. As always! Lousy conditions....not always.
Looking forward to 2012 event. Thanks to all the fellows who
activated some of the rarer places for us!

    VE3OM
A fine contest, however, conditions were
    not the best!

    VE3OSZ
Poor conditions but enjoyed the contest anyway.

    VE3TG
Lots of fun, lots of good DX

    VE3VHB
Good to have 10M open again. Seemed to be a lack of U.K stations this year. Very few heard or worked on 40 & 80 and only two on 15. Lots of noise on the low bands which made it difficult to hear the weaker stations.

    VE3XN
I appreciate the opportunity to have some fun in this FB event working

80M almost unusable QRN and few stns

    VE5ZX
Condx were terrible in the auroral zone.

    VE6LB
Was single-op but used packet. 800 Watts to a SteppIR BigIR. Poor
participation here as openning to G was limited. Conditions also poor.
K of 5 at this latitude pretty well shuts down a lot of paths.

    VE6TL
Horrible condx due to fast solar wind. Made half of last year's score but didn't put in as much time. Goal this year was to make 100 QSOs and listen to the VE3s work Europe. Highlights included working ZLs on 40m and on 10m.

    VE7BGP
I had a lot of fun with the limited time I spent on this Contest. This
is the weekend Daylight Savings time started in Canada and Saturday
was one of the rare nice days this Spring so I was outdoors quite a
bit. 10 opened to VK and ZL so I had a lot of fun using my Venerable
    old FT-757GX on 10.

    VE7BQO
    I enjoyed the contest very
much and I learned some new things through my
participation. SD worked well for me.

What a pleasure to hear life on 10 and 15 metres after such a long time. Let's hope this cycle is well and truly underway and for those of us past out 'best before' date turns out to be a good one. Only two other HQ stations worked - VA3RAC and GB5CC.

    VO1HP
As usual an enjoyable contest but wasn't motivated to stay on all day and
night. Conditions were not good and at times things were very slow as it seemed there was no one to work. Many persistent callers from Italy and Russia - who didn't seem to get the idea that they we not going to be worked.
Did poorly on 80/40 due to my regular dipole having developed infinite SWR
sometime during a recent storm. It is permanently affixed to the top of the
tower so no way to do a repair without cranking down and luffing the tower
which is not a recommended practise in winds and -2C!. I jury rigged an
existing 1/4wave 40/30M sloper to work on 80 by addition of a trap and pigtail.
It worked but was very noisey......used my K9AY effectively to pull out a few
    of the weaker callers.
Missed 2100Z - 0200Z while attending a Soc. Nfld Radio Amateurs Supper & Song fund raiser to help support it by bringing my group along to play some
    bluegrass.
Used the cluster throughout the period to mainly look for rare DX. Was pleased to work 9M6/VO1AU .....hope I'm in your log Dave.

Definitely not the year to go North :=) Still lots of fun and already looking forward to next year!

    VP2V/G3PHO
My first BERU outside the UK and what a BERU it was! Our superb rental
villa at Cooten Bay Tortola was much further down the North facing
hillside than expected and I had fears of being badly blocked to VK/ZL
and South Africa but I needn't have worried as everything heard here
was way up the scale from back home. The strength of many G stations
was unbelievable with dozens of S9 plus ones on 80 and 40 metres. I
expected to have to work hard using Search and Pounce as my antenna
was a simple fan dipole for 80 to 10m and the IC706Mk2G gave only 100
watts. Such a station back home would have struggled .... not so here in
the BVIs! The location a steep hillside overlooking the Atlantic
seaboard of the island more than made up for the lack of a beam and
linear amp. Two short CQs and the pile ups started! To hear dozens of
G3s plus non BERU callers all screaming for a VP2V contact was quite
an experience.. You'd think VP2V was rare:-) So where to next year?

    VP5/VE3OP
My first Commonwealth contest! Really enjoyed it!

Conditions generally OK to North America with openings on 10 and 15 metres. Poor to the UK especially on the low bands.
Strange "blackout" on Sunday on 40 metres - no usual early opening from 0400 - 0630 UTC. Poor on 80 metres.
No real runs of G's on 20 or 40 metres. Never even heard GB5CC.

    ZL2BR
A bit of a fizzler! Contact totals and score well down on 2010.Both polar paths to the UK sucked the life out of most G signals, especially on 40m.
As expected ZL activity was very poor, only 4 of us were sort of serious, at least another 7 ZLs made an appearance of some sort. VK activity appeared to be well down on on 2010 as well by a big margin.
But what about those VEs. They were every where and lots of them. For
the first time in thirty years worked more VEs than Gs including
    three 5-banders.

It was fun to enjoy BERU from the DX end. Sadly the disturbance made this more of a struggle. I discovered that being a long way from the most active Commonwealth countries can make this a much more challenging event. I hope to be on from an even rarer Commonwealth territory in 2012. If Japan was in the Commonwealth I could have won!

Great conditions this year but a pity that ten metres was not well open to the north.

    C4Z
Loss of 80m antenna was a big handicap. The major solar storm spoiled cndx, not only propagation but bands were incredibly noisey. Disappointed to be well below last years score but - hey this is an annual party where we meet up with old friends around the world, what can be better than that.Beru rules - roll on 2012.

    G0FYX
Limited time available this year. Condx seemed poor.
Super Duper SDC worked well post contest.

    G0HVQ
Hard work this year due to solar storms hitting the bands not so many VK and ZLs on the lower bands and 15m and 10m only starting to recover at the very end of the contest.

    G0KPW
Real hard work with 10m a big disappointment after expectations of the week before. 40m failed to deliver during the night as the MUF dropped below 7MHz too. Some good moments though.

    G0MTN
Amazing what you can work with antenna at 15 feet.

    G0ORH

    G3KKP
The contest different to all others even under such bad conditions.

    G3KMA
Conditions much worse than last year on all bands

    G3KZR
Missed any opening there might have been to Caribbean on 15m which was otherwise managed to open at times in most directions - a surprise indeed.

    G3LDI
Poor propagation but still worked some nice DX. Pity ten didn't open at all.
    FT2000 + rhombic

    G3LET
There were flashes of good conditions but 10 and 15 did not live up to their promise of the previous week. I really struggled unless I'd been lucky enough to find somebody before the pack. Very few responses to CQs unless targetted. Nevertheless enjoyed as always!

    G3LHJ
Very hard going on QRP band conxs very poor for it. But enjoyable for the first QRP go at BERU Thanks to the good ears of everybody.

    G3LIK
Condition on HF not that good this year
Always at the back of a queue with 100W & no beam

Crazy conditions after such a great week.
Having been a traveller for past 4-years nice to be

    G3VDB
    I like this contest!
Some nice new ones but pity the sunspots did not live up to their promise!

    G3VKW
    Conditions were very poor
    Good fun though

    G3VPW
99% S&P didn't manage to get a run going every contact a bonus. Surprised to catch Peter VP2V/G3PHO on 20m when the band had been closed for an hour and then took 10 mins out to work N1NSB/CY0 pity they were not competing in BERU no sign of Mike VP8NO on any band. Nothing again on 10m shame about prop. as things were really looking up on Friday. Perhaps the earth's crust cracking and the axis shift caused too much magnetic disturbance. Signals weak and very QSB on 20 & 15m.

    G3VYI
Poor condx at times especially Sat eve
    Thanks to all the expeditions!

No time to put up antennas this year just a token single band entry.

    G4DBW
Another enjoyable BERU despite "challenging propagation". Do all VE's live in VE3 call area in March ?

    G4DDX
Noisy bands and weak sigs with me but great satifaction in making the qso's under these conditions lost much time with visitors and family.New sd worked well most helpfull with the callsign check

    G4DJX
    Enjoyable as always

    G4FAL
I had to stay at home this year so operated from Lincolnshire with an A3S at 60 feet and 40m and 80m dipoles at about 75 feet. There were very strange conditions on Saturday. It sounded like the participants were sending CW with their mouths full! It was disappointing that the higher bands were disrupted by an incoming solar flare – the ups and downs of better sunspot activity. There were some great signals from the Caribbean and Africa but also from the Far East and India. When the propagation was there the signals were excellent. Thanks to all those who travelled to or participated from home in those wonderful pink coloured countries – at least Commonwealth countries are mostly pink on my map of the world! I am not sure how much point there is in running from the UK but I probably missed a few contacts as I spent the majority of the time S&P.

    G4FKA
Unable to do an entry this year so just worked a few on Saturday afternoon. Conditions not as good as last year although 28 popped into life a few times.

    G4FSU
Slower than last year. 21+28MHz disappointing after increased sunspot activity of late. But BERU was never a high rate contest!

    G4IUF
Aurora kind of spoilt things but if it was easy etc !

    G4KNO
It's a shame we have to wait another year for the next one! Much improved score a result of a more serious effort and CW practice.
100W from TenTec Orion to single multi-band ground-mounted vertical using 40ft Spiderbeam pole.

    G4PIQ
Usual lack of time. A few QSOs grabbed here and here. Conditions seemed quite poor
    K2/100 + PA 400W. 160m Dipole @ 18m

    G4RCG
Terrible conditions pity after all the good conditions the previous week

    G4VFG
Enjoyed the time spent condx fair.

    G4XPE
    Poor propogation and high qrn

    G5CL
    My first entry in Beru.
    FT857 - 5 WATT QRP. Ant: 66ft end-fed wire up 9m

    G5LP
In 30 years of activity I have never entered BERU for 'real' - after the last 24 hours I can understand why! Sincerest thanks to all those exotic calls that were active and those who travelled great distances - your efforts a truly appreciated.

    G6CSY
Running QRP 5W from IC-7400 to a trap vertical. Very strange conditions with the SFI @ 123 and A-index @ 25
Could hear just VK ZL VP8 and VE stations but way down in strength.
Most just above the noise and unable to hear my 5W. Even listening to other G stations working the DX they were nearly all at noise floor levels compared to the usual S5 to S9+ I hear.

    G6MC
Poor conditions made this a very frustrating contest!
    Op. G4RCD

    G6PZ
Tough conditions for most of the contest. Actually really awful conditions for most of the contest. The aurora was way up and that killed Western Canada on 40 and 80 and with it most of my competitive advantage due to local terrain and better LF antennas. The SP opening on 40 and 80 was the worst I have ever heard. However things did brighten up in the early hours with an excellent long path opening on 40/20/15 and a bit of SP action to VK on 15. Never even heard the VKs Justin worked from G0KPW on 15. That's why he wins the Rose Bowl and deservedly so - a great operator at a great station. With the exception of ZL6QH, ZL1AIH is the loudest ZL I have ever heard on 80 and unlike all the other ZLs was peaking to the NW rather than the expected SW. I expect to lose quite a few points as the severe distortion made copying serials difficult at times and I can spot a number of obvious busts in the log.

    G7TWC
Dire conditions here. Nice to work a couple of new DXCC entities. Flex3000 and used CWget for assistance.

    G8JXV
Assisted entry. Shame that the condx on the higher bands weren't up to last year, but still a great opportunity to work DX!

    G8MIA
It was a strugle this year. Conditions were poor with weak signals.

    GB5CC
Condx poor this year - 200 QSOs less than in 2010. Very unusual weather conditions meant 20m and 10m
antennas iced up and could not be used on Sunday morning which meant
some lost QSOs and mults. Thanks to everyone who worked GB5CC.

    GI4BQI
    IC756 PRO III 240ft Doublet up 35ft

    GI4DOH
Poor band conditions but still some nice surprises

    GJ4CBQ
K3 and 35m circumference horizontal delta loop at 12m

    GM3WIJ
Condx Poor but Nice to work some DX

    GM3WUX
Another excellent event, pity about conditions!

    GM4BRN
Sadly one of our ops (GM4WLN) couldn't make it as he was snowed in! We entered the Multi section as we wanted more than one of our club to get their first experience of BERU. We didn't really want to do 24hrs we ended up doing about 14 hrs. We found it a very different contest from the usual "RUN" type contests. We really needed a 12Hr MO High power/unassisted section - especially for us ! We didn't use the cluster at all as we all agreed that we find that point and shoot operating style pretty boring! We have to admit we found it hard work but were somewhat cheered afterwards to hear that others found the condx pretty dire compared to last year. So maybe we didn't do quite so badly after all. Thanks to all who worked us. Will we back next year?......Dunno the jury is still out.

    GW0VSW
Only a very limited time due to work but thanks to all
who managed to copy my QRP. It was hard going!!!

    GW4BLE
Operated for a few hours on Saturday only target
was 100 Qs for a token entry. Made that OK although conditions
    were dire.

    GW4XXF
Digging out weak signals from the high noise levels on practically dead bands was very hard work. I had intended to do the full 24 hours but by 22:15 I retired hors-de-combat due to an extreme headache. Incidentally I run a very traditional station: straight key and pen-and-paper logging ... not a computer in sight. Alinco DX77 <100W + Long Wire

    H2E
Really looked forward to this one, then I get told my cw signal is "very bad". Couldn't find the reason for this so had to give up. Ho hum, there's always next year.

    J68PJ
Rig K3 Antennas 10m CF vertical doublet for HF and 30m CF doublet for LF. See www.beru.org.uk for more info

    J88DR
Propagation to UK was very disappointing - it had been excellent on 10 & 15 all the week before - and recovered again within hours of the end of the Contest
Terriffic participation from Canada although numbers from VK & ZL seemed down.
Some good signals from ZL & VK on 10m and very nice to work P2 on several bands.
    IC7000 100 Watts. 3-el tribander dipoles for 40 & 80 all at 30 feet. Also R8 Vertical.

    M0CEF
    Condx unfavourable this time.
Needed more power than expected to work some stations.
Nevertheless a few new areas in the list.

    M0JWB
    Limited hours of operation

    M0NQN
    Higher bands disappointing.

    M0RYB
Well, a bit of a struggle but thanks to all those with excellent hearing who picked out my sigs. No thanks to the station who sent "No BERU today" (but sent no callsign) on 40m on Saturday... Good job nobody else took any notice

    M0TDK
My first BERU very enjoyable will do better next time!
    FT1000MP MK V FIELD with 200' DOUBLET

    M1KTA
Nice to see the bands busy with lots of participants. But why do many ignore the OP requests for BERU ONLY and cause DX station pile ups?

    M5ALG
My first real attempt at the Comonwealth Contest, though I was not able to do as long as I wanted to. Enjoyable for the times that i operated. Thanks and see you next year

    MM0BQI
Great way to get some nice DX in the log! Could only manage a few minutes but some very good fun. Thanks to all.

    MM0RKT
Solar condx promised much but delivered little round these parts! Ah well I got my VKs.

    MU0FAL
Poor conditions but still fun It seems that the cluster
generated pile ups is spoiling the peace of BERU

    P29CW
An enjoyable contest from a jungle Dxpedition location on the Fly River in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea.
Yaesu FT897D transceiver (100W) AT120 tuner and single element inverted-vee antennas for 20M and 40M with an inverted-L for 80M.

    P3J
Conditions were extremely disappointing after hugely improved conditions the previous few days.
For the first time ever in BERU I failed to beat my previous best score.
Thanks to the organisers for their continued work in making this a fascinating contest.
I suffered a greater than usual amount of non-BERU callers this year possibly as a result of auto-spotting by RBN/skimmers?

    V51YJ
Lost just over six hours due to three separate thunderstorms which forced me to unplug all antennas and equipment. S9 QRN made 80m operations very difficult. As usual though I enjoyed the contest.

    VA3DX
    Marginal conditions at times

    VA3RKM
QRP K2 5w verticals. Once again a lot of fun to work other ops in the Commonwealth. My sincere thanks to those pulling out my weak signal. Working a QRP station from VK and ZL on 40m must be difficult. And once again GM3POI was an 80m contact for me. Glad to work 5H and VP8 for the first time.

    VA7KO
Vy tough condx. Gave it my best shot. Ant dipole

    VA7MM
    Equipment - ICOM IC-746 at 100 W Output. Antenna - multi-band dipole

    VA7RN
Conditions were very poor on the west coast of Canada
Nevertheless it was very gratifying to work 5H3EE AND V51YJ
And as a Liverpudlian good to work those 'G's'
    (ex RN)

    VE1RGB
Very poor conditions here for the last half of the contest; otherwise I had been doing slightly better than last year. I eventually QRT when hopelessness became evident.
I like this contest a lot because of the antenna limits of the Restricted category which, having only single element radiators, means that BERU is one of the few instances where I can take antenna considerations off the table and obtain a more meaningful measure of the station's performance against my peers.

    VE1ZA
Conditions poor, but QRM very low. Nice contest. Thanks to contest committee.
